The picture book lives on! Here’s further proof:
Beginning today, the NY Times Book Review will post an online-only weekly review of a new picture book, supplementing — but not replacing — their regular coverage of picture books in the print edition. Check out the debut review here.
This is particularly significant, in view of an article that appeared earlier this year that prematurely announced the demise of the picture book, with the arrival of iPads and other ebook devices.
While it remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of the book, picture books stand out as an anomaly, that unique object of desire coveted by parents, teachers, librarians, educators, artists, writers, plus a myriad of sticky-fingered children.
Especially before bedtime…
